 A popular mod for a lot of BMW E30,  E36, Z3 and E46 enthusiasts is converting to manual steering.

Power steering, designed to assist the driver, actually dulls the connection between the driver and the road. It’s great for parking and low-speed maneuvers, but it limits the feedback you receive through the steering wheel. On the track, that feedback is crucial – it helps you understand how the car is behaving.
With power steering, the response can feel vague, slowing down your reaction times and affecting your overall handling, especially in corners. Removing it gives you a better sense of the road and how hard you can push the car in turns.
That’s why a lot of track-prepped E30s, E36s, E46s, and Z3s run without power steering.
